I've only seen the FAN590 reporting that - all other reports seem to think it is for the year.

Great move. He's an RFA now and becomes UFA next year. Comes back to North America and signs with his hometown Canucks.

It's still a full-season contract, unless he exercises the out-clause, and not a temporary one for X number of weeks.

Basically, it serves both a practical purpose (Franson, as a FA, has security if NHL interest is lacking after LO) and political one (Brynäs can say it's compliant with the Hockeyligan policy against short-term contracts during the lockout).

The out clause is likely in place if the Leafs are able to trade him to another club. The lack of impetus in getting a deal done over the summer is a strong indication that they will try to trade him if they can get equal value.

He'd be a great 5/6 dman on the Canucks.

Some guys just need different coaching.

Throw in Gardiner and Lupul and you've got a deal.

Good to see Burke seems to have screwed this up too.

- So he wont sign long term contracts
- his drafting (from we've seen in the NHL) isn't that great.
- his free agent signings are ABSOLUTE HORRENDOUS
- The leafs haven't improved in the standings

But he has made some decent trades.

I'm having a hard time defending you Burke.

I hope he comes back. The kid always gets the puck through and on net from the point. Given and opportunity and with someone decent to stand in front of the net, you'll see his points totals rise

I like Franson and would like to see him stay with the Leafs! That said, the kid seems to have attitude! You have to follow the program as a rookie, and the program is keep your mouth shut and earn your spot! Franson has an issue following this directive it seems!

IF Liles has his poop together this year I'd be fine with:

Phaneuf-Gunnar
Gardiner-Franson
Liles-Komisarek
Holzer

or flip Liles and Franson if need be. I was going to say this creates a noticeable defensive liability, but then again, so does every combination of these D.

Thats my thinking too. I understand you want to play, and thats fantastic, but go out and earn it by proving people wrong, not complaining about it.

Not a rookie so that point is moot, and he earned his ice. RW (frank)ed this up real good.

Rather see Franson playing real games than just skating, so it's all good. He'll be back here or traded when the cockout is over

That'd be Rob Slaney, Mike.
John Slaney is 40 years old this year. Robert is 23.

Both are from Newfoundland and named Slaney, and played for Nashville, so I guess you were close.
